The Boys Wrestling Team is looking for more members of the Archbishop Wood Student body to join the team. Our program welcomes all comers - it doesn’t discriminate whether tall & lengthy or short & stout, weights from 90lbs to 300lb, experienced or never competed in any sport. We will train you.

We are currently meeting for preseason workouts. Mondays, Wednesdays & Thursday @ 3pm in the wrestling room (2nd floor, north side, next to STEM). Stop in and see what we’re about.

Wrestling is the best cross training for every other sport as it teaching body control, strength, healthy living, responsibility and accountability.  If you are currently playing a fall sport and are interested in joining, please reach out to Head Coach Chris Meister @ chris@elitetechniquetraining.com or Assistant Coach Kevin Reilly coachreilly_35@msn.com with any questions. Why You  Should Wrestle?

Wrestling is a great sport because anybody can do it. In this sport, you wrestle people that are the same weight as you; size is not an issue as it may be in a sport like football or basketball.  The sport of wrestling also helps young people develop important qualities such as self esteem, sportsmanship, work ethic and leadership skills. Wrestling is the world’s oldest sport and teaches control, not violence.  Wrestling develops agility, balance, reflexes and strength in every major muscle group and can dramatically improve one's ability to perform in other sports.

Uncovering the Hidden Benefits of Wrestling 

No one on the planet does anything because they want to work hard.  People work hard to get the things that they really want.  If what the athlete desires is worth more than the effort they need to put in, then they'll jump through hoops to get it.  Let’s look at some of the hidden benefits of wrestling and see which ones you can identify with.


You'll never be in Better Shape in Your Life - A fully conditioned wrestler is the most anaerobically fit athlete of any sport.  With cat-like precision and explosive power, a wrestler executes a burst of energy every 6 to 10 seconds during a match.  Wrestlers look healthy, fit and muscular because of the way they train. You don't necessarily need separate workouts for cardio, strength, endurance and agility because you get all of that in a single wrestling practice. Wrestling training is training from the top down. Just one workout with multiple benefits.


Burn off more fat, in less time, and keep it off - It takes ten hours of aerobic activity to burn a pound of fat.  Not a very efficient way to lose weight.  But short, intense workouts and training in sports like wrestling and weightlifting will make you burn more calories in less time.  In addition, intense training increases your metabolism and calorie burn long after your workout is done. 


The Best Kept Secret in College Admissions - College admissions officers make their decisions based on how well you satisfy these two questions.  Can you do the work? and are you capable of the dedication needed to graduate?  That's what they must decide based on all the data in your application. Congratulations Coach Dillon

A very special congratulations to Dillon Evans on being inducted into the Council Rock Hall of Fame! Coach Dillon will be honored at a dinner prior to the induction ceremony which will be at half time of the CR North vs CR South football game on Friday, October 27th. The game starts at 7:00pm.  Please congratulate Coach and learn from his example of hard work!
